My name is Steve McEvoy and I am electric bassist, double bassist and bass tutor from Radcliffe, North Manchester.

I play double bass and sing with The Beerkats and double bass with The Nikki Turner Jazz Quartet. I also dep for several other projects and am always interested in dep gigs or session work on both electric and double bass. I read music (both treble and bass clef) and can play from charts or by ear. I can also provide recordings of electric and double bass to your bassless music tracks via email. Please get in touch via my contact page for further details.

I started playing classical guitar at school at around the age of ten and eventually upgraded to an electric guitar and started playing in school bands. In my late twenties I bought a bass guitar, and stopped playing guitar almost overnight. I was initially self-taught, but later decided I would benefit from some lessons to ensure I hadn't developed any bad habits and to push my playing progress. These were superceded by double bass lessons with a classical double bassist.

I have a BSc (Hons) in Music and Pure Maths, which included study in Music Theory (equivalent to ABRSM Grade 6), Song Composition, Musical Analysis, the Physics of Music, the Principles of Operation of both electric and acoustic instruments (with personal emphasis on Double Bass), MIDI and Recording Techniques. I am a member of both The Musicians Union and The Registry of Guitar Tutors, I have Personal Indemnity insurance and am CRB checked.
